What it concerns

An implantable stretchable flexible neural electrode, electrode group, and electrode array, manufacturing methods, and implantation methods. The implantable stretchable flexible neural electrode comprises an electrode wire (10) and a flexible insulating part (20) covering the electrode wire (10). The flexible neural electrode further comprises: a spiral structure (SS) of the electrode wire (10) and the flexible insulating part (20); the spiral structure (SS) can be stretched; an electrode point (30) and an auxiliary implantation structure (40) are provided at the spiral structure (SS); the electrode point (30) is electrically connected to the electrode wire (10) and is exposed from the flexible insulating part (20); the auxiliary implantation structure (40) is configured to, under the action of an external force, drive the spiral structure (SS) to stretch. The achievable length of the flexible neural electrode in the effective area can be greatly improved, the flexibility of operation of implanting the flexible neural electrode into a target tissue is improved, and the stability of the flexible neural electrode after the flexible neural electrode is implanted into the target tissue is ensured.

What the filing appears to be about, read by published rules from its title, abstract and classification codes (A61B2562/0209, A61B2562/125, A61B5/24, A61B5/291, A61B5/293). The claims define what a patent protects, and they are not read here.

Why it matters

Interface and electrodes
Everything downstream works with what the contacts pick up. Their number, size and distance from the neurons set the ceiling on the signal. The problem behind it: more contacts, closer to neurons, that still record after years in tissue that reacts to them.

Why the layer matters to the field, not a judgement of this filing. A patent family shows that protection was sought. It does not show that the technology was built, is used in a product, or works in people. The whole stack

Dates as the offices published them. Office records are in the offices' own words and are a selection: refusals, lapses and withdrawals, and records that name an owner. Each concerns one member of the family, not the family as a whole, and another member in the same office may stand. Whether a patent is in force today is not assessed.
