What they are building

Develops Beinao-1, a wireless implant that rests on the brain's covering without penetrating it, and Beinao-2, a flexible intracortical system reported to be in animal testing, with the state-backed Chinese Institute for Brain Research.

Where they are clinically

Beinao-1 · Minimally invasive

First-in-human

The first use of a device in a small number of people, focused on safety.

Access today

Experimental human research

Demonstrated in a small number of research participants. Not an established treatment.

Beinao-2 · Invasive

Preclinical

Bench, animal or cadaver work. No human participants.

Access today

Preclinical

Not yet tested in people.

Only Beinao-1, the device that sits on the dura, has been implanted in people. The reports of how many do not agree: a state-owned group's news page announces a sixth case, and a later press summary gives seven. Beinao-2 has not been implanted in a person, and no study of either device is registered on ClinicalTrials.gov.

Shown in people
Beinao-1, which rests on the dura, implanted in six or seven people according to press reports that do not agree. No study is registered and nothing is published.
Still an aim
Authorisation of Beinao-1 as early as 2028, a projection reported by MIT Technology Review, and Beinao-2, which is in animal testing.
What stands in the way
A public record: without a registry entry or a paper, none of the reported results can be checked.

On record here: 0 peer-reviewed papers

This technology remains experimental and is not an established treatment. Access is limited to registered clinical studies.

Why this company matters

NeuCyber shows the other route Chinese BCI development takes: a state-backed research institute and its spin-off working with three large Beijing hospitals, in parallel with the venture-funded companies in Shanghai. The public record is thin and comes from news reports, so we describe it with care. MIT Technology Review reports that Beinao-1 could be authorised as early as 2028; that is a projection, and no registered trial or published result stands behind it yet.

Key milestones

  1. 20 Mar 2026

The company's rotating chief executive tells Reuters that its most advanced product, Beinao-2, is about three years behind Neuralink and is in animal testing.

  2. Feb 2025

First human implantations of Beinao-1 reported, carried out with Peking University First Hospital, Xuanwu Hospital and Beijing Tiantan Hospital.

Filings touch 3 of the 11 layers, most often interface and electrodes (15 of 27 families) and decoding (12).

Across the stack: families by layer

Themes, by number of families: electrodes and arrays (15), neural decoding (12), signal processing (6), insertion tools and robots (3), signal acquisition (3), packaging and hermeticity (3). A family can carry several.

Published in: China (27), counted over the 27 families whose full record was read.

21 more families counted

Families found for NeuCyber NeuroTech in the EPO’s worldwide database, grouped so that one invention counts once. A filing shows what a company sought to protect. It does not show that the technology was built, is in a product, or works in people, and themes are read from titles, abstracts and classes, not from the claims. How to read this
