Where they are clinically

Clinical study

A larger structured study of safety and performance, short of a pivotal trial.

The human results reported so far come from short-term implants in patients having surgery for other reasons. A 32-participant study of a fully implanted system for hand function in tetraplegia has been registered as recruiting since July 2026; it has not reported.

Access today

Experimental human research

Demonstrated in a small number of research participants. Not an established treatment.

Shown in people
Short-term recordings in surgical patients: Mandarin decoded at 71% over 142 syllables within five days of implantation, according to news reports.
Still an aim
A fully implanted wireless system for hand function, in a 32-participant study recruiting since July 2026.
What stands in the way
Chronic data: everything reported comes from implants of days, not months.

On record here: 1 registered study · 32 participants planned or enrolled · 0 peer-reviewed papers

This technology remains experimental and is not an established treatment. Access is limited to registered clinical studies.

Why this company matters

NeuroXess has reported the first real-time decoding of Mandarin, a tonal language with a syllable inventory unlike English, which makes it a different decoding problem from the one US speech BCIs have solved. The figures come from news reports of short-term recordings in surgical patients, not from a peer-reviewed study, and cannot yet be set beside the published English-language benchmarks. The study it registered in 2026 is a different undertaking: a fully implanted system for hand function, the indication Neuracle's NEO was registered for.

IP and patents

Filings touch 5 of the 11 layers, most often interface and electrodes (51 of 65 families) and implant electronics (23).

Across the stack: families by layer

Themes, by number of families: electrodes and arrays (51), implant electronics (15), insertion tools and robots (13), neural decoding (13), signal acquisition (11), chips and on-implant computing (9). A family can carry several.

Published in: China (65), United States (1), counted over the 65 families whose full record was read.

59 more families counted

Families found for NeuroXess in the EPO’s worldwide database, grouped so that one invention counts once. A filing shows what a company sought to protect. It does not show that the technology was built, is in a product, or works in people, and themes are read from titles, abstracts and classes, not from the claims. How to read this
